What this site is

An independent guide to do-it-yourself home energy in Great Britain: plug-in
solar, which became lawful to use on 27 August 2026, and home battery storage. We are not an
installer, not a retailer and not a government body. We do not fit anything, we do not sell
hardware, and we do not sell your details to anyone who does.

Why it exists

Search for “plug in solar” today and you will mostly find pages published by companies that sell
plug-in solar, and pages assembled from those pages. That is not automatically bad — someone has to
explain a new product — but it produces a predictable set of failures: savings figures with no
working shown, a “best kits” table where every entry is an affiliate link, silence on the fact that
you are not paid for exported electricity, and regulatory claims sourced from another blog rather
than from the regulations.

We do it the other way round. The answer first, with the number, the date we checked it and a link
to the primary source. Where we do not know something, we say so on the page rather than filling the
gap with a confident sentence. Anyone who reads a page here and concludes that a plug-in kit is a bad
idea for their flat has got exactly what they came for, even though it earns us nothing.

How we get our information

Rules come from legislation.gov.uk, from GOV.UK publications and from Energy Networks Association
engineering recommendations. Prices come from Ofgem for energy and from published market ranges for
hardware, always labelled as such until we have carried out our own dated survey. Every figure on the
site carries the date we last checked it. The full method, including what we do when sources conflict,
is on our editorial methodology.

Who is behind it

  • Publisher: Gerard Ferri Ventura (individual, sole publisher)
  • Established in: Barcelona, Spain
  • Tax identification: 43568488W
  • Contact: hello@wattnest.co.uk

Full publisher details are in the legal notice. This is a UK-focused
site published from Spain; we say so plainly rather than pretending to a British high-street address
we do not have.

What we are not, and do not claim

  • We are not electricians or engineers. No page here has been reviewed by an
MCS-certified installer or a chartered engineer, and we will not say otherwise. If that changes, we
will name the person and their qualification.
  • We do not give legal, tax or financial advice. We describe rules and routes and
link to the bodies that administer them.
  • We do not run a lead-generation business. There is no quotation form on this
site and no arrangement with any installer.
  • We do not accept payment for coverage. No manufacturer has paid for a mention,
a position in a table or a review, and none will.

How the site is funded

It isn’t, yet. The site carries no advertising and contains no affiliate links at the time of
writing, so it earns nothing at all. The plan is advertising, and possibly affiliate commission on
some retail links; both are set out in advance on
how we make money, including what we will not do for money.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and say that we have. Corrections to
substantive facts are noted on the page rather than made silently. Write to us via
the contact page.
